ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My work portrays themes of place, memory, and identity, through the practice of
printmaking. I use these ideas to create a contemporary approach to landscape, focused primarily on West Coast scenery. The way in which we capture memories and experiences, rendering them in different forms of art, is an interest of mine that I incorporate in my printmaking process.
Generally beginning with a photograph I took, I create a plan of images, color schemes, and
references from other artists so that I am able to move forward with a rough idea of my end
result.
Desert landscapes occupy the mass of my work, as well as abstract self-portraiture. By combining these ideas, I’m creating a body of work that is representative of my desires and
problems that I resolve by translating them into pieces of art. Using a photograph from a specific moment in time, and fabricating it with my own imagined imagery, I produce prints that reflect a sense of nostalgia and retrospection. With one specific trip to the desert in California, I was able to create a collection of work consisting of individual pieces as well as a series. The way in which I’ve used that experience to create an extensive body of prints allows me to communicate the importance of memories, desire, and obsession, while trying to keep my work accessible in both content and context.
